The Value of the Mid-Year Check-In

So many of us tend to think of January as a good time to take a step back, realign goals, and set plans for the new year. But what I’ve found is that a mid-year check-in can be a great time for you and your team to look at processes, address barriers, and put measures in place to finish the year strong.

At StratComm, we have just finished up some big projects, including website redesigns, annual reports, training modules, and printing and distributing thousands of books to Haiti. But there is no time like the present to prepare for what’s next, as we gear up for an even busier year end. While we get ready to kick off a new set of projects and continue to schedule thousands of court recorders for Social Security disability hearings around the country, it’s important we carve out some much needed time to debrief on recent projects—the successes, the challenges, and the things we could be doing differently before going full-steam ahead.

Whether you are discussing project resources, challenging deadlines, or even the jammed printer, we find that some of our most productive office chats happen on a Friday—with coffee and bagel in hand. The conversation is relaxed, and everyone seems more open to looking at what we can do better. We may not have the ability to act on every suggestion, but every team member’s input is valued.

The knowledge gained from recently completed projects can pave the way to more team collaboration, additional opportunities and resources, clearer client expectations, fewer roadblocks, and greater ROI on new projects. So unplug, grab your coffee, and get the conversation started!
