The War of 1812 and the Rise of the U.S. Navy, published in March 2012, is a large format, 9x12 illustrated hardcover book that was commissioned by the United States Navy in commemoration of the bicentennial of the War of 1812, a war that helped shape what has become one of the world’s great military organizations.

Through hundreds of archival photographs, rare memorabilia, and personal reminiscences, the book captures the spirit of a burgeoning nation as it found itself again at war with the British Empire, and in the process details the humble beginnings of a vast, powerful naval force.

Even before the publish date, this project that began as a simple history book commemorating the events of the War of 1812 has already received accolades. It has been selected as an offering by Book of the Month Club, History Book Club, and Military Book Club. Further, acclaimed historian Douglas Brinkley wrote the Foreword for the book.

The book is published under the two different titles, with two different cover treatments. Yardarm to Yardarm is being used for U.S. Navy ceremonial purposes; The War of 1812 and the Rise of the U.S. Navy for bookstore distribution by the National Geographic Society and Random House.
