Founded in 1972 by Robert J. George, Boston Publishing established itself as a premier publisher of world-class history books, with a focus on American history, world history, and architectural history.

Boston Publishing has since expanded its horizons through Strategic Communications, its marketing communications branch, to include corporate publications; Strategic Communications currently services a clientele comprised of a diverse range of Fortune 500 companies.

The Boston Publishing staff consists of a highly experienced team of research coordinators, graphic designers, editors, photo editors, project managers, marketing specialists, and a pool of seasoned, highly specialized writers and journalists whose expertise ranges from technology and financial services to naval and maritime history.

Boston Publishing Company has created exceptional publications on a wide variety of material, ranging from aeronautical charts for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association to A History of Jazz for the International Association for Jazz Education.

Boston Publishing has worked with leading international publishers and distributors, including Rizzoli Editore of Italy, Bertelsmann of Germany, Hachette of Paris, and Cassell Macmillan of London.

With Rizzoli Editore, Boston Publishing has created hundreds of high-quality, lavishly-illustrated art books; the company published the impressive Grand Tour architectural series and the Empire series, which collectively sold more than ten million copies.

Boston Publishing also created collections of art books for New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and for the New York Graphic Society. In addition, working with the American Federation of Arts (AFA), Boston Publishing created Museum Publications of America and Museum Collections to assist the 850 art museum members of the AFA with publishing endeavors related to their various art collections.

        

Boston Publishing has catered to the unique publishing needs of many other organizations. For example, the company published the official histories of the United States Olympic Committee (A History of the Modern Olympic Games: 1896-1996), General Motors Corporation (A Centennial), and the Congressional Medal of Honor Society (Above & Beyond: A History of the Medal of Honor from the Civil War through Vietnam). The Boston Publishing staff has carved a niche in publishing the histories of major corporations and organizations of every kind.

Additionally, Boston Publishing was the official distributor of Jane’s All the World’s Fighting Ships and All the World’s Aircraft books and created a number of special publications for the renowned military information group rooted in naval and aviation authoritative information, including Jane’s Who’s Who in Aviation. Boston Publishing has also created publications for the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where it continues to work with the Academy’s archive.

Boston Publishing’s acclaimed accounts of the Vietnam War, The American Experience in Vietnam, which features a forward by Walter Cronkite, and The Vietnam Experience, were twice nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in History by John Kenneth Galbraith.

Boston publishing’s most recent project, The Wall, was created for the non-profit organization Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), and commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, documenting its fascinating history, from its controversial inception in 1982 to its evolution as the most visited and venerated memorial in our nation’s capital.
